The faculty of Health Sciences houses equipment suitable for imaging specimens ranging from cells and tissue to small animals.. Image modalities include fluorescence microscopy (one- and two- photon confocal), and in vivo fluorescence and luminescence imaging.. We will also have a research scientist, whose primary job duties are to ensure that all equipment is working optimally, to train and advice external users, and if requested assist users in image acquisition and analysis.. 1.. Nikon / Andor Spinning Disc Confocal.. Motorized, inverted Nikon Ti-E microscope with Perfect Focus System equipped with Yokogawa CSU-X1 spinning disc and Andor Laser launcher with 405, 491, 514, and 561 nm laser lines.. This system has a very flexible electron-multiplied CCD camera (Andor EMCCD DU-885, 1004x1002 pixels, 8x8 µm).. This system is equipped with an Okolab microscope stage incubator for enabling live cell experiments at 37.. o.. C in 5% CO.. 2.. This system was acquired in 2010 as a component of DaMBIC.. Location: MEMPHYS - Center for Biomembrane Physics..  ...   The instrument is capable of measuring laterally resolved thickness maps for ultrathin (nm) films on solid substrates in air or water.. The instrument can also characterize the dielectric properties of the film and substrate.. The instrument can be fitted with a modular Langmuir trough (Nima) to enable BAM microscopy (probe free) of Langmuir monolayer films at the air/water interface.. Location: MeMPHYS - Center for Biomembrane Physics.. Contact: Adam Cohen Simonsen, E-mail:.. adam memphys.. 4.. The Bruker UltrafleXtreme MALDI TOF-TOF tandem mass spectrometer.. We are currently establishing imaging MALDI mass spectrometry as a research tool in DAMBIC and at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at SDU.. The Bruker UltrafleXtreme MALDI TOF-TOF tandem mass spectrometer enables peptide and protein profiling in biological specimen, as well as amino acid sequencing of peptides.. We explore a range of applications of this technology in biological and biomedical research, including imaging MS of peptides and lipids in mammalian tissues.. Contact: Ole N.. Jensen, E-mail:.. jenseno bmb.. Instrument info about MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer.. 5.. IVIS Spectrum.. The.. IVIS.. uses an optical imaging technology to facilitate non-invasive longitudinal monitoring of disease progression, cell-trafficking and gene-expression patterns in live animals.. You have the advantage of bioluminescent and fluorescent reports across the blue to near infrared wavelength region.. Also single-view 3D-tomography is provided..

  • Title: Motivations: DaMBIC
Descriptive info: Life (and death) is dependent on complex networks of molecular interactions between proteins, lipids, DNA and RNA with remarkable specificity and diversity.. These molecular interactions are regulated at sub-cellular spatial scales, sometimes on the order of nanometers, Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center and on second, or even sub-second time-scales.. This exquisite spatial and temporal regulation is lost in biochemical bulk assays and instead requires advanced bioimaging techniques with preferably single-molecule sensitivity in biological specimens ranging in size from single molecules to whole animals.. Necessary instrumentation is expensive and requires skilled operators.. Hence, such equipment is best utilized in multi-user facilities, in order to maximize societal and scientific return  ...   of diseases.. It is in response to these general challenges and the specific representative projects of the PIs that we propose the establishment of DaMBIC, a national biomedical imaging research center.. This initiative is driven both by the pre-existence of a broad, collective, expertise in bioimaging and by a broad common research interest and ambition for investigating biomolecular interactions over several length (from single molecules to animals) and time (from milliseconds to days) scales.. We strongly believe that this combination of broad scientific expertise and a broad common research interest provide the necessary basis for creating DaMBIC, a premier, unique, interdisciplinary, multi-user, national bioimaging research center in Denmark..
